Register now for the 2018/2019 RDS STEM Learning Teacher Education Programme – a 10-hour CPD programme designed to support primary school teachers undertaking science investigations in the classroom as part of their participation in Science Blast, delivered by the RDS.
The Programme will focus on investigating everyday issues in science and will be delivered by RDS STEM Learning Facilitators who are primary school teachers. Workshops aim to support teachers in building their confidence and skills in teaching science through inquiry and will generate a supportive learning environment where teachers can reflect on their classroom practice and share ideas and experience.
Participants will be supported trial approaches in their classrooms and extend their learning by taking part in Science Blast, delivered by the RDS. Science Blast is a non-competitive programme for primary schools that involves the whole class investigating the science behind a question and then showcasing their work at one of three national events in the RDS Dublin (March 6 & 7, 2019), MIC Limerick (May 22 – 24, 2019) and Belfast Waterfront (June 5 & 6, 2019).
· Workshop 1: Hands-on! An introduction to child-led inquiry and working scientifically.
· Workshop 2: Asking Questions. Starting points for generating questions and identifying problems to solve.
· Workshop 3: Purposeful Design & Make. Using history and storybooks as the context for design & make tasks.
· Workshop 4: Everyday Science. Looking at current issues as a context for meaningful scientific inquiry

Cost: The RDS will cover tuition fees for all teachers who participate in the Autumn series.
Course Accreditation: On completion of the 10-hour programme (4 x 2.5hr workshops), participants will be will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance which, at the discretion of school management, may contribute towards Croke Park requirements for the 2018/2019 school year.
Follow on opportunity: Participants will be entitled to reduced price entry to the RDS STEM Learning National Conference for Primary School Teachers, 'Digital technologies, science and the primary classroom' on Saturday, November 24, 2018. This one-day conference will focus on the effective use of digital tools within everyday scientific investigations using practical, hands-on and accessible approaches.
