Course Outline
Embark on an informative journey designed specifically for Special Needs Assistants (SNAs) who are new to working in special classes for students with Autism. This webinar will provide foundational knowledge and practical strategies to effectively support students with Autism, ensuring a positive and productive learning environment.
Starting a role as an SNA in a special class for students with Autism can be both exciting and challenging. This webinar is tailored to help beginners understand the basics of autism and equip them with essential skills to support their students effectively. Attendees will gain insights into the characteristics of ASD, common behaviours, and the best practices for creating an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.
Participants will learn about individualized education plans (IEPs) and Personal pupil Plans (PPPs), sensory integration techniques, communication strategies, and behaviour management approaches tailored to the unique needs of students with Autism.
Facilitator Bio
Magdalena works as a Special Needs Assistant in a primary school in Co. Limerick for over 8 years supporting children with additional needs. She is an Editor and Publisher of AMYGDALA – the First National Magazine for SNAs. Magdalena graduated from UCD finishing the National Training Programme for SNAs receiving a Certificate in Inclusive School Support. She has a teaching background from Poland.
In May 2024 she graduated from Trinity College Dublin (Post Grad. Level 9) with a degree in 21st Century Teaching and Learning. She is in a process of writing her dissertation for her Masters in Inclusive Ed. and SEN. She was delivering webinars through DWEC in the 23/24 academic year. She loves sharing her knowledge and experience with fellow SNAs.
