Course intro:

We have designed this course to bring awareness to all teaching and support staff around Auto Injections incl Epi Pens, Jext and Anapens. We will reference the best practices, adhere to your local Medication Management policy and bring guidance from Anaphalaxis Ireland.

At no stage can we interpret or give advise on any medical action for children and adults. This information must be received in conjunction with their medical team, family and guardians. The course is for awareness purposes.

An emergency is when the person is in anaphylactic shock.  The whole body is affected, often within minutes of exposure to the allergen but sometimes after hours.

Legislation specific to Medication management includes ,SI No. 449 of 2015 Medicinal Products (Prescription and Control of Supply) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 2015 and PHECC clinical practice guidelines (CPGs).

All students require their own Emergency care plan and staff must adhere to this. It is developed with involvement of all including parents and approved by the Board of Management.

• Auto Injectors Awareness
• Introduction to Epi Pens, Jext and Anapens
• Legal Requirement incl Local Policy (Local Policy Review)
• PHECC guidance
• What is anaphylactic shock?
• Childs emergence plan (Refer to Anaphylaxis Ireland)
• Raising the alarm internally and externally
• Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (Full Course)
• Use of Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) (Full Course)
• Emergency Management
•  Learning Outcome review
